My golfing life began at a very young age at my local Cornish course Bowood Park, My family have always enjoyed the game, with Bowood being the hub for all family events and gathering, often we would play as a family at least 2/3 times a week and enjoy a few to many at the 19th hole afterwards. In short golf was instilled in me from a very young age often i was dragged around 6 holes by my father from the age of 4. Through much persistence and dedication from my family by the age of 9 i was hooked obtaining my 28 handicap and shooting a massive 128 over 18 holes in my first medal round at the age of 11.
Through my teens as my body developed so did my golf, i hit a single figure handicap by the age of 14 and shot my first under par round just before my 16th birthday. I was competing regularly in Cornish junior competitions and results were begging to come to florican. Soon i found myself representing Cornwall as a rather nervous 16 year old, in a team with some of the greats of Cornish golf, current PGA Tour winner Harry Hall as a example. My first match was a baptism of fire, i was last off in the afternoon singles against bitter rivals Devon, playing at Staddon Heights golf club. in which was a very tight dual i found my self having to win the last hole to win the match. A confident slopping putt in front of a gathering crowd was enough to secure victory on the 18th green, thus starting my County career. Representing Cornwall gave me some of my fondest memories, playing as a team not just yourself. it taught me many valuable skills that have carried over into my working life and my golfing career so far. My Amateur career peaked in its twilight year with the best season to finish a undefeated run of county golf. Winning Cornwall u18 junior championship and u21 Championship in the same year as well as 10 trophies at Bowood at club level. While having the opportunity to captain the Cornish Junior Squad at my final match. Finishing junior golf at a +1 handicap.
Turning 18 meant golf had to take a back foot as work and earning had to become a priority, I managed the bar & restaurant at Bowood park for a few year then jumped from job to job until an opportunity of a lifetime presented itself in the form of my very own Bar & Restaurant. My second but much bigger venture this was a challenge like no other as a very confident and optimistic 21 year old i jumped straight in and soon was recognised in North Cornwall as one of the best eateries around. While running my Restaurant time for golf was difficult, i always made sure i had chance to play at least twice a week, i kept my eye in, didn't play in any huge events but still continued to improve achieving all time low handicap of +3 in 2022. within this time i played some of my best golf so far shooting some low rounds including a fourteen under par 60 off the red tees at Bowood in a charity event. Golf was still at the forefront of my life and gave me the opportunity to relax and unwind from the constant stress of running your own business.
Fast forward to 2024 times were tough finically and i found my business facing bankruptcy, possibly a victim of my own success and ambition in life for constant improvement and perfection. Summer i was in a stat of reflection, i found my self asking the question, what is my true passion? what do i want to do next? For me the answer was simple, it was golf. Golf is the reason for all my pervious opportunities, my friendships, my life choices it taught me, how to act around people, to socialise, to be competitive but respectful, to push boundaries and strive for perfection. This is where it clicked and i found myself diving back into the world of golf, passionate about leaning the art of coaching so i can not just teach people to play but pass on the life skills and enjoyment the golfing community has given me.

Golf , in my opinion has been greatly overcomplicated, from the way it it taught, the way we play, the attitude of golf establishments and the players & people that are involved in the sport. I think the enjoyment of this most wonderful game is being overshadowed by all of this.
I set out to look at golf from a different angle, keep it simple and just enjoy it. this will be the priority when teaching for me. My lessons and teachings will be based upon making simple, easy to understand adjustments in small bite sized chunks. , often the answers lie in different areas of your game not just the swing itself.
